Naked DJ Reviews
First, I'd like to thank NetGalley for allowing me to read Naked DJ in return for an honest review. This has got to be one of my favorite books in 2016 so far, and here's why in one word: Originality. Now, let me expand on that - our protagonist is real, down-to-Earth, and is entirely relatable because of the place in her life that she's at... Unsure of where she fits in with her job and even more unsure of where the next place she's going to be living - or if she's going to be staying there for longer than it takes me to write this review. And, of course, unsure of who the heck she'll end up with.AKA - the realest young adult book you'll ever have the pleasure of reading in 2016.And let's all admit we've all been there. But let me get back to the originality aspect of the book: it's about her job as a radio DJ on the air, and her crazy romantic life that has all these little niches that create a world that is just crazy enough to be entirely life-like in the real world.YES, we can all rejoice: there are no vampires or werewolves to be seen and no apocalypse occurring as the major climax of this read.Jazmyn has been places in her life that is true to the world we live in now, so if you like modern books with twists of romance and drama that match the setting of the book to perfection, this book is for you. The only thing I wanted more from the book was the interaction that gave the romance part of books that I personally really look forward to grasping in anything I read. Sure, all the guys seemed like decent options in my opinion, but maybe more of a rounded feeling to what happened in the end would've given me a clearer feeling of Ah, this is the end of the book.Overall, a great read!
Always a Great ReadI love all of Jo Maeder's books. This one was great! It sucks you in on the first page and keeps going. I hate that it's over!
I just loved this book! The author, Jo Maeder, was a DJ on Miami's Y100 years ago, I used to listen to her. Although this book is fiction, she gives us an insight on what it's like working in the radio industry, how hard it is for women to get equal pay and equal time as men (doesn't happen), and how it's who you know that helps you get ahead. The characters come alive as she tells this story, and it doesn't feel contrived, in fact it's totally believable. I hope she writes a sequel, because I'd like to know what happens to the protagonist after this story ends. This is Jo Maeder's second book. I loved her first book, called I Married My Mother. It's the true story of how Jo had to quit her job to take care of her aging mother, who was a doll collector. Google "Mama Jo's House of Dolls" to see all the dolls that Jo had to compete with for attention as she was growing up. I follow Jo Maeder on facebook, she is one interesting person.
I love Naked DJ. If you ever wondered what it is like to spin those records and talk to listeners you will love this story because Jazmyn Brown has a lot to prove. The world of radio is in turmoil and every DJ should read this book. Jazmyn has been in small markets her whole life when she finally makes it to NYC the number one market in the country. This is where her dream job, and ex dream lover intersect. While she tries to figure out what to do with her love life and her career, you will fall in love with all the characters. Rachel Butera brings them all to life with her amazing narration! She is a comedian and impressionist who is so much fun to listen to. I loved everything about this book. Best summer read since Opposites Attack! Loved it!!
I loved Jo Maeder's new book, Naked DJ. Once I started it, I could not put it down! Jo has once again created an unforgettable character, Jazmyn, just as she did in Opposites Attack. It was fun to learn about the life of a DJ and to follow Jazmyn's induction into the radio world of NYC. This is a fun summer read. Take it to the beach or to the pool, sit on the patio and sip coffee, tea or a chilled glass of wine, or do as I did, and stay up way past your bedtime so that you can find out what happens as Jazmyn juggles life in a new city, three very interesting men, jealous colleagues and her past struggles.
Well, I am the author. I certainly don't want to discourage you from reading NAKED DJ in another format. But I have to say how much I love the audiobook that Rachel Butera read. She's even up for a SOVAS award for it! Rachel's gift as a voice artist gave the characters a depth and intimacy that blew me away. I felt I knew them even better. I'm sure she'll do the same for you. For more, please read my blog post Behind NAKED DJ, the Audiobook. Thank you! http://jomaeder.com/2016/10/behind-na...
